We can offer you a salary that is generally between HK$14,000 - HK$43,000, which is competitive and reasonable. But no need to be worry! Job Summary

Your role is to build and lead a world class purchasing and sales team covering Asia that will enable us to fulfil our mission to become the world’s largest recycled plastics commodities company. With ownership of this market segment, you will be dedicated to upholding the standards that have made Vanden one of the world leaders in recyclable plastic commodity trading.

With an initial focus on India, you must start by executing sales and developing customers yourself. This will enable you to gain expertise about our products and industry and understand the market dynamics across the region.

Building the right team on the ground in the first 12 months is a key objective. Knowing where they should be placed, and the types of people needed will require you to spend a lot of time in the market and executing trades as a way to demonstrate viability.

You and your team will create sales for existing recycled plastic supplies generated from our global locations and develop supply sources locally that will deliver reliable quality feedstock to our customers around the world. 

A strong career history as a successful salesperson and sales manager, you are a proven leader who has experience building high-performance sales teams in a commodity business.

Reporting to the global Directors, you will have an entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrate complete ownership of achieving targets.

Working in partnership with company leaders and teams on the ground, you must strike a balance between long term strategic planning and driving initiatives to generate profit quickly. Thriving in rapidly changing market conditions and able to deliver certainty in a trading environment where uncertainty is the norm.

An excellent communicator, you will demonstrate an optimistic and persistent approach, always open to giving and receiving feedback on performance. Not willing to settle for second best, challenges are seen as an opportunity to learn.

This role is suited to an ambitious and experienced commodity sales expert who is motivated, goal driven and wants to be part of a Values driven organisation in a growth industry.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Delivery:

  •     Gain a thorough understanding of traded materials, recycling processes and compliance requirements for the trade and use of recyclable plastics
  •     Master existing purchasing and sales processes
  •     Manage existing and develop new customers to generate sales for current supplies
  •     Develop supply relationships with local recycling companies & execute profitable export trades
  •     Determine the countries and regions where purchasing and/or sales representation is required on the ground
  •     Develop a clear strategic plan to deliver immediate and long term targets in the region
  • o   including resource planning, systems, market segmentation, recruitment, team structure and skills development
  •     Develop and action the tactical steps required to execute the strategic plan
  •     Engage in constant and active risk management, ensuring systems are in place to support
  •     Ensure customer diversity across geographies and product types to manage risks
  •     Lead the team to constantly enhance sales skills, material knowledge and industry knowledge through formal training, coaching and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
  •     Gain thorough understanding of the existing CRM, the opportunities within and together with IT develop the future requirements according to growth plans
  •     Work with IT and other functions to streamline business processes
  •     Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer relationships, improve service, increase volumes and increase margins.
  •     Contribute to developing reporting metrics on individual and team performance
  •     Conduct market research into new product lines, end uses and geographic markets
  •     Develop and enhance relationships by being creative, innovative and ensuring customer service excellence
  •     Develop sales strategies geared towards reducing spot trade reliance and increase profits generated by longer term contracts.
  •     Work closely with purchasing counterparts and leadership to shape the future strategies and development plans
  •     Role model and ensure adherence to a positive culture of compliance on regulatory and company policies

Reporting & Management:

  •     Role model and ensure team are highly engaged in CRM
  •     Provide feedback & market reports across the business
  •     Use knowledge of competitors and market to develop Vanden’s unique selling propositions

Person Specification

Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):

  •     At least 3 years of Regional Sales Management or Director experience in a commodities business with:
    o   a track record of building successful sales teams in Asia
    o   a track record of working to and exceeding financial targets
  •     Prior to Management roles, at least 5 years in Sales or Business Development in a commodities market with a successful track record
  •     Experience of selling commodities into SME’s and Corporates in the manufacturing or materials processing industries

Skills & Abilities:

  •     Fluent Mandarin, Cantonese and English (other languages an advantage)
  •     Able to coach and inspire commercial teams
  •     Able to implement training programs to meet development needs of team members
  •     Able to stand back and review data/information to see the ‘big picture’
  •     Able to use logic and reasoning to appraise situations
  •     Able to anticipate opportunities and risks
  •     Able to build rapport quickly with colleagues and customers
  •     Able to negotiate effectively with customers to maximise margins
  •     Able to effectively collaborate with colleagues to achieve results
  •     Able to manage and respond quickly to changing/competing priorities
  •     Highly organized, able to independently plan own time
  •     Able to follow internal procedure & policy (CRM, Admin, Trial Policies, Customer Onboarding)
  •     Able to present and clearly communicate information in speaking and writing
  •     Able to ensure tasks are completed on time and to a high-standard
  •     Able to use Excel, Outlook, Word and other MS Office products with high level of proficiency
  •     Able to undertake effective research
